This message wasn't intended to discuss GNOME's Bugzilla but I brought that up. Apparently there has been some discussion about this, just wondering what it was and whether there'd be any chance of getting this (and I guess upgrading to Bugzilla 3).
Working both with Ubuntu's Launchpad and GNOME's Bugzilla, I can say that the current processes to relate bugs, to push them upstream, and just to manage them are quite tedious.
Olav, copying you as I hear you're the Bugzilla maintainer.
Cheers,
Andrew Conkling

The plugin is installed per-Bugzilla instance. Since
bugzilla.gnome.org is all one Bugzilla instance, the plugin would work
for all the projects whose bugs are hosted in it.
Unfortunately the plugin is written for Bugzilla 3.0 and above
(Bugzilla < 3.0 doesn't have an XML-RPC interface, and the plugin
builds on that interface).
bugzilla.gnome.org runs a customised
version of Bugzilla 2.x, IIRC, which means that the plugin can't be
installed on it at present. I believe that Jorge Castro, one of the
Canonical Community team, spoke to the
bugzilla.gnome.org maintainer
at GUADEC this year and discussed this matter briefly, but I don't
know how things are going to proceed from here.
Hope this clarifies things a little. If you've got any questions feel
free to contact me or one of my colleagues (to whom I've copied this
mail). I'm on vacation for the next week, but I'll be happy to help
you after that. If you know anyone that I should talk to about the
situation with
bugzilla.gnome.org, please let me know.

You've previously registered one or more bug trackers with Launchpad,
either as part of a project or so that Launchpad can retrieve bug
statuses from them.
I'm emailing you because we've recently developed Launchpad plugins for
Trac and Bugzilla that allow bidirectional communication between
Launchpad and the remote bug trackers that have them installed.
We need to be able to test these plugins - and that's where you come in.
If you know of any bug tracker whose administrators may be interested in
installing the plugin for interoperating with Launchpad - or indeed if
you run such a bug tracker yourself - please let us know by emailing us
at
feedback launchpad net.
You can find details of how to install the plugins and what you need to
do to get Launchpad to work with your bugtracker on the Launchpad Help
wiki:
For Bugzilla:
http://help.launchpad.net/Bugs/BugzillaPlugin
For Trac:
http://help.launchpad.net/Bugs/TracPlugin
Installing one of the plugins means that:
* Launchpad will be able to forward bugs to upstream bug trackers that
have the plugin installed. Users of those bug trackers won't have to
check Launchpad for bugs registered against their project; they'll be
forwarded straight to the upstream tracker.
* If a bug watch is created against an upstream bug, Launchpad will
tell the upstream bug tracker which Launchpad bug is watching it.
This means that not only is there a link in Launchpad to the upstream
bug, but there's also a link in the upstream bug tracker to the
Launchpad bug.
* Launchpad will be able to import comments from upstream bugs which
are being watched in Launchpad. If you register a bug watch against
an upstream bug you'll be able to read the conversation about that
bug on Launchpad, including the comments that are made on the
upstream bug tracker.
* Launchpad will be able to push comments to upstream bugs which are
linked to a Launchpad bug, so if you add a comment on Launchpad in
reply to a comment which was imported from an upstream bug tracker,
the comment will automatically be added to the conversation on the
upstream bug tracker, too. This means that users of both Launchpad
and the upstream tracker can view the whole conversation about the
bug without leaving their preferred environments.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Graham
