I'd guess your problem is that libvirt doesn't
check in /usr/local for qemu binaries and hence never finds them.
I think libvirt is also compiled by hand and installed in
/usr/local/bin, but I indeed do not know where it's going to look for
QEMU. Setting PATH before starting libvirtd could indeed help, thanks!
