VirtualBox releases both the mouse and keyboard when you press the host key (right ctrl) so the next keystroke goes to the host making it easy to switch. AFAIK Qemu only releases the mouse and with a full screen VM that's not very useful.

Also, in VirtualBox I find if I turn Auto-Capture off I can click into the VM and the VM window that has focus responds however meta-keys such as the Windows key, ctrl-alt-arrow, etc go to the host which makes switching between things very convenient.

Nope, this is not possible at the moment. Out of curiosity, how does
that work in VirtualBox?
