1) news.gnome.org for this week
--------------------------------------------------------------
Our news site:
http://news.gnome.org
went live early this week, and there's a lot of interesting stuff on
there. So I'll try not to rehash too much of it in this summary.
Items on the page include Personalizable Toolbar Library, Translating
the User Guide, New Glademm release, GGV release, GNOME Print release,
gnome-libs release, gnome-libs status updates, gphoto and libxml
releases.
==============================================================
2) gnome-libs status
--------------------------------------------------------------
On the news site, be sure to check out:
http://news.gnome.org/gnome-news/935902117/index_html
Which is a status report for gnome-libs 2.0. It also includes some
stuff I wrote about my "GConf" configuration system. If you hate the
registry, now's your chance to help with its replacement; patches now,
or no whining later. :-) Check 'gconf' out of GNOME CVS.
In the comments section of this status report, Mark Crichton added a
status report on gdk-pixbuf (Imlib replacement), which is also worth
checking out.
==============================================================
3) Bug Report Number 2000
--------------------------------------------------------------
Vincent Renardias (vincent@debian.org) writes:
we got the #2000th bug report on Wed, 25 Aug 1999 08:43:54, and it was in
fact a congratulation message from Glen A Miner <gaminer@ubisoft.qc.ca>:

5) Icons!
--------------------------------------------------------------
Matthias Warkus is really serious about completing the GNOME icon set.
Here's a status report:
http://www.gnome.org/mailing-lists/archives/gnome-list/1999-August/1346.shtml
==============================================================
6) GTK+/Gnome Application Development ships
--------------------------------------------------------------
My book is now shipping, and should be available in stores (online and otherwise).
Here's the info page:
http://pobox.com/~hp/gnome-app-devel.html
Also, the book is in GNOME CVS under the "GGAD" module for your
book-hacking pleasure. This is a fairly comprehensive and detailed
GNOME programming manual; if you've been upset about the lack of
GTK+/Gnome documentation, check it out.
==============================================================
7) Vintage Rubber Gnome Squeeze Toy
--------------------------------------------------------------
On the Amazon.com page for my book, Amazon was advertising a Vintage
Rubber Gnome Squeeze Toy from Amazon Auctions. Of course someone (who
hasn't confessed yet) bought it and sent it to me at RHAD Labs. :-) Dr
Mike is home with his new baby and the keys to the digital camera
drawer, so no photos of the GNOME yet. But we'll have them.
The Vintage Rubber Gnome makes a _really loud_ and thoroughly
unpleasant noise when you squeeze it. It's amazing. They don't make
them like this anymore, guys. :-)
Anyway, thanks to whoever sent the Gnome. It rules.
