Re: A11y presentation

What's the audience going to be like? Completely new to accessibility?

If so there is a lot to cover. It's important to describe how different kinds of disabilities affect using GNOME. Then you could cover some of the end user features. Where can individual developers make a difference as they create new pieces of software, without being an expert? How should people test? Some stuff, such as providing full keyboard support and not relying on color, should be obvious to people by now, and it's worth making sure everyone handles those things by now.

Finally if it's a pretty techie audience you'll need to explain how ATK/AT-SPI makes some of the more challenging aspects such as screen reader access.

There is a tool called Accerciser for inspecting the AT-SPI object hierarchy. But, I think it will go over many people's heads if they never thought about accessibility before. Well, unless you provide a nice explaination without going too deeply into it.

Here's a slideshow I made ages ago, but is largely still relevant:
http://www.mozilla.org/access/slideshow/
And the text version: http://www.mozilla.org/access/slideshow/text

Ignore any content that talks about what's not available yet, or downsides of different technologies. Too much has changed since I wrote that.

Hi, folks.

I'm going to give a talk (at our 5º GNOME Brazilian Forum) about
accessibility in GNOME. I don't have many experience in this area, but
due to lack of talks in this area, I accepted this challenge.

I know that a11y is a strong feature in GNOME, so I want to talk a bit
about this and, more importantly, I would like to show a demo session
featuring all a11y stuff in our desktop. I have 50 minutes - including
questions - to do this.

So, I ask: Could you help me, show me the direction I have to follow,
and, if possible, show me some presentations you did in the past?

Thanks a lot,
