spreadsheet in OO 1.1

Hi all
Has anyone successfully used the spreadsheet program in openoffice 1.1? I can move around a sheet fine, the problem comes when I enter data, which
causes srcore to exit. I get the beep and the warning that srcore has exited, and the data is not entered into the sheet. Anyone work around this yet? Slackware
9.1 with all current gnome 2.4 packages, openoffice 1.1.0.
