My only comment here would be that while it may not be essential to
provide such a checkbox, it could nonetheless save a visually-impaired
user a lot of time and effort. A user who requires a particular
high/low contrast theme may have had the theme set up for them by a
sysadmin, for example-- they may not be able to do it themselves because
the default theme made it impossible to read the appropriate
menus/dialogs to do so. In that situation, the user might not know
exactly which fonts or colours to choose in profterm to match their
existing gtk theme, without having to read and interpret their .gtkrc
file (a pretty specialised task).
But maybe this is more of a feature enhancement that can wait until the
next release, I don't know. Any thoughts Bill?
