That's why I just spent almost a week to provide a way to read/write the old configuration data in
bonobo-config. The code (in libgnome/monikers/) is now almost finished, but it'll need some fixing.

If people weren't pushing me all the time to meet that fucking API freeze, I'd spend another week
to port a medium-size GNOME 1.x application (for instance the Panel) over to bonobo-config and to do
some testing.

Btw. if someone wants to do this, feel free to do so. If you're a little bit careful, you can do this
in a way that it'll work with GNOME 2 without re-porting. Just make sure to port this large app to
bonobo-conf and the frozen Bonobo 1.0 API.
