Instant apply settings in GnomeMeeting

Hi,

We would like to port GnomeMeeting to Gnome 2.00 and use the new policy which is to
apply settings instantly when they change. I think that it is the new Gnome 2.00 policy.

No more "apply" button.

This kind of behavior works pretty well for some related GUI options, but there are some cases
where it has no sense. So I'm asking you to know what to do in that case.

1) the camera case

There are several settings related to the camera grabber in gnomeMeeting.
Every time a setting change, you have to close the grabber and reopen it.
For example, if the capture size changes.

Some camera drivers take about 2 seconds to be restarted.

Does that mean that if the user changes the size 2 times, then changes 2 other settings,
the camera will be closed / opened 4 times and that it will take 8 seconds for the changes
to take effect ?

What is the solution to this kind of problem ?

2) LDAP

gnomemeeting is able to register to LDAP servers.
Basically you give your first name, your surname, a comment, your location.

Does that mean that if the user changes each of the 4 settings, gnomemeeting
will have to register/unregister it 4 times in a row ?

How can I detect that he has changed his first name entirely if I do not want
to change this info on the LDAP server every time he types a charachter ?
Some user click elsewhere, some others type on enter, some others do other things...
How to know ?

Thanks for your answers.

Damien
