The only real problem here is that the minute a pacakge
versioned 1.4.0 appears on the ftp site, news will be reported that
GNOME 1.4 is out. We can claim "Hey, those are preview pacakges!!!" all
we want, but they will be considered full release by simple virtue of
the version number.
People will not say "Hey, they sure fixed those bugs before the
*real* release, at 1.4.2." They will say "Man, that 1.4.0 release was
*soo* buggy. They still can't do a quality release."
