Do you think that the current read-only Online Glom should use
non-editable text input and textarea box for the data like the new
mockup shows? Or should it use just plain text for the data like the
older mockups show? When editing support lands, there's always the
option to convert the plain text data to an input / textarea when the
user clicks on it.
It's tempting to match the appearance of the desktop UI, but I guess
it's more common in the web world to have labels that change into text
entries. So, as we don't have editing yet, they can just stay as labels
for now.
A new mockup is attached. I kept the Open buttons to the far right
(the same place they were with the text entry boxes). The visual
reference of the text entry box extending to the button helped make a
clear association of the data to the navigation button. But I like
that the data is now lined up in a table. Do you like it?
Multiline text still needs to be sorted out. I could add a vertical
scroll-bar when the text overflows the number of lines but it might
look odd without a visual bounding box.
We can change this fairly easily later, I hope, if it feels strange.
Changing the labels to text entries shouldn't be too hard. There are
GWT widget for both input and textarea and the CSS has already been
worked out in the old mockup.
