Hi,
    what reffered you to adding-widgets.txt ?
that file is an old version of the beginnings of what the
documentation is now - and so it is obsolete and removed
from the repository.

The up-to-date documentation is installed with the glade3 tarball
and is available here: http://glade.gnome.org/docs/index.html

You can try looking at the canvas.xml.in file for a pretty short
catalog file for an example - although it does alot of extra stuff
like defining a bunch of fake properties.
