 If the mouse works ok with everything but GIMP, the GIMP mouse driver is probably the issue. Try booting up 
with another distro on thumb drive or DVD, and see if the problem goes away.

 GIMP had been working all right, and then recently, probably after 
another Windows 10 "update," the mouse began to not work right in GIMP 
anymore. I can't click on menu items, I can't click on icons in the tool 
box and I often can't even click on the "X" at the side of the image to

few minutes of using it, however, I get this problem.

It seems as if the mouse just is not working in the software.
