Thank you for the response but I do not understand what you mean by "list of
places"

"Shared Folders" lists all my drives

I did have a drive crash and it was never revived.  

But why would the problem affect just GIMP and no other apps, 
and why would the problem persist after a clean reinstall of Gimp?
