[Gimp-user] Can I import a PSD Photoshop file?

I have a PSD Photoshop file and want to get it into GIMP. When I tried
to open it, I got this error "unsupported color mode CMYK". Is there
any conversion program or any other way to do this. It's possible I
may be able to get the person to save the PSD or export it in a
different format.

The PSD file was made from a CD template so it has 4 panels all
connected together, so that they can be folded into a CD jacket

Any suggestions or guidance is appreciated

Gimp is a RGB only editor, the psd file needs converting from CMYK (a printers
format) to RGB (a computer display format).

Apart from using PS, two ways.

A utility CYAN https://github.com/rodlie/cyan/releases/tag/1.2.0 and
https://github.com/rodlie/cyan/tree/1.2 Can be used stand-alone or as a Gimp
plugin a demo https://youtu.be/1A0Aaoy1mhQ

The freeware Krita www.krita.org which works in both colour spaces and can
convert between each. Export as a RGB psd file.

Probably Krita is going to be the best options for a psd with presumably many
layers.

The problem with PS psd, is it is a proprietary format and Gimp only supports
limited aspects.

Text in particular is rendered to a bitmap and is not editable as text.

PS layer effects which vary between PS versions might/might not work or work in
a limited manner.

These PS type templates can be used but be prepared for the possibility of a lot
of work.
