Hello all,
I'm looking for help to crop to a specific size either in centimeters or inches.
I've done a lot of searching on this and found some posts but when I try the
solutions it still doesn't work for me.
I'm printing out stencils to be applied to different items and depending on the
item the stencil will be applied means I'm trying to crop the image to a
specific size. For example I need my crop to be 1.75" (1-3/4") x 1.5"
So here's what I have tried:
1. Open up my image that is 2000x1333 at 72 ppi. I don't need much resolution
when printing so for ease of this example I have left the print size at 72 ppi
as well.
2.1.75" x 1.5" is a 7:6 aspect ratio. The picture I'm using has a lot of stuff I
don't need in it so to tighten up the crop I scaled the image to 300x200.
3. I then select the crop tool and leave "Fixed" as selected and then I choose
aspect ratio as 7:6 and choose the area I want to crop and I save the crop.
4. I open up the cropped image and look at it's size under "Image>Print Size"
and instead of showing 1.75" x 1.5" it shows 2.0 x 1.7". When I change the 2.0
to 1.75 then the 1.7 for the height drops to about 1.4 which is pretty close but
why is it not coming up as 1.75" x 1.5" or is what I'm seeing here not relevant
(meaning it wouldn't actually print as 2" x 1.75")?
5. I can't even get "Size" to work under the crop feature. If I leave "Fixed"
selected then this is greyed out. When I uncheck "Fixed" I can manipulate the
size fields but when I enter in 1.75" as the width the height automatically
changes to keep the scale (I think) and likewise when I change the height to
1.5" then the width automatically changes. I can't set both to 1.75" x 1.5".
What am I doing wrong? I'm obviously missing or not understanding something.
I've been using Gimp for a long time but this is the first time I've had to crop
to a print size that isn't something like 8x10, etc.
Thanks.
Karen
