Try not to think PS, Gimp works in its own way. Was once said Gimp has a steep
learning curve and PS a steeper un-learning one.

I suppose the most used are:

Zoom in - ctrl + mouse scroll wheel. The zoom focus is the cursor position

Move the canvas - spacebar + click and drag in the canvas.

When zoomed right in move the canvas using the navigation window icon
