[Gimp-user] HELP putting words in 3d curved around a globe

Hi all,

I’m working on a cover for a music EP.   In my head the cover is a globe with
the EP title bended around it.

Can anyone explain to me how to curve the text around the ball?   I found the
map object -> sphere option but it seems to insist on putting the text all
around the sphere, i.e. stretching it around the back of the discoball and
making it unreadable.
My logo attached below, just an example of it (colour to change prob to blue
ball, green or gold text).

I'm thinking something like the universal pictures logo.
