[Gimp-user] Export and save options grayed out in xcf file

I dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 7.

In this instance, I was running Ubuntu (13.10).

I was finally able to export the file by righ-clicking on the canfas and using
'file-export' from that drop-down menu.

The drop-down menu from the top ofthe screen did not allow many options, though,
most were grayed-out.

I never noticed that before.  Is it an Ubuntu anomoly?
