Hi
I spent lot of time here asking why "save as" and "save"  normal 
functions are now unavailable in Gimp.
My conclusion: this new Gimp behaviour prevents newbies,  to loose their 
work.
For other people, not only professional people:
GIMP: Save/export clean plug-in
(for those who don't like the GIMP 2.8 Save vs. Export separation)
