FYI, the convolution matrix is one of the most important filters for one of the
aspects of GIMP product vision, namely:

algorithms, by scientists and artists;"
The convolution Matrix is a generic tool for image processing, and is
needed as a toolbox for implementing and experimenting with image
filters.
