[gedit-list] Prettyprint math plugin feature

Hi there!

My name is Chris and I frequently use gedit for various python data analysis scripts.  For my research, it's quite customary to write long math formulas and it's somewhat difficult to detect subtle errors when writing the equation in a single line.  So, I was thinking about creating some sort of plugin that displays a prettyprint (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prettyprint) version of a math equation within gedit.  This would be a real time display (for example, not complied with TeX) and would properly display fractions, powers, subscripts, greek letters, etc.

Has there been any interest in this sort of plugin?  I've googled around and wasn't able to dig anything up.  Any advice on where to start?

Thank you very much,
