   thanks for thinking of gedit for your GSoC proposal. We are always happy to hear good ideas!

Nacho already made a small git plugin useful while editing: https://github.com/nacho/gedit-git-plugin

We think a full fledged git client plugin would be a bit out of scope in gedit, but do not let me stop you :)

You should also maybe consider working on gitg which is a gnome git client that works great in conjunction with gedit and which incidentally is developed by the same people :-)
