[gedit-list] extended ascii

i have been trying to have gedit display extended ascii codes (128-255). the gedit documentation says to right click on panel, click on add to panel and select character palette.

there is no add to panel when clicking on (i am assuming) the main panel of gedit.

it is important that i can see the extended characters.  i did check the files with bless hex editor and know these extended characters are there.

any help would be appreciated.
