Hiya.
I downloaded gedit from the Gtome project page:
http://projects.gnome.org/gedit/
The blurb (with link) says:
"The latest windows binary can be found from gedit win32 binary."
Here is the URI:
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/binaries/win32/gedit/2.30/gedit-setup-2.30.1-1.exe
The install "looks" okay.
I get an application popup when I try to run gedit.
This is from System Log:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup
Event Category: None
Event ID: 26
Date: 15/07/2010
Time: 5:50:09 AM
User: N/A
Computer: DAVID
Description:
Application popup: gedit.exe - Entry Point Not Found : The procedure
entry point freeaddrinfo could not be located in the dynamic link
library WS2_32.DLL.
"procedure entry point not found" means one thing - gedit is looking
for a call in the dll that doesn't exist. This is usually the result
of an application being designed for a specific Windows operating
system and being run on a different flavour.
For the record this is my version of ws2_32.dll:
5.00.2195.6601
This is my flavour of Windows:
Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]
Could someone confirm or deny whether "win32" means "win32 for some
undocumented flavour of win32". I could not see any documentation on
the website or in the download regarding Windows.
Best wishes.
