[gedit-list] symlinks in side pane look like normal directories

I'm doing some work on a complex directory structure with several symlinks 
(every sub-project in the tree contains links to directories and scripts in some 
central project)

It would be less confusing if the side pane in gEdit would use a different icon 
for a file or directory if said file is a symlink. Right now this does not seem 
to be the case (ubuntu wih gEdit 2.24.2)
