what we need is

1) A patch[1] :)
2) make sure that the proper mime type is registered in freedesktop'
xdg-mime database

[1] as you can see from the bug, the code that does highlighting is in
gtksourceview, not in gedit itself. .lang files are located
in /usr/share/gtksourceview-1.0/language-specs.
