With the view highlighting mode one can force the correct type of
highlighting mode for "*.css" files. If you are working with a "*.css"
file and save it with a comment in the first line, the highlighting mode
will change to "C" even though the file name has a ".css" ending. In the
"C" or "C++" programming language the syntax "/* .....*/" delimits a
comment. This is the same syntax as a cascading stylesheet uses for a
comment. If I have understood the email from Paolo correctly then this
is likely a bug. The workaround I have found is simply not to have a CSS
comment in the first line of the file. Other CSS text or simply a blank
line result in "gedit" remaining in the correct syntax highlighting mode
after saving the file.
Let me know if I should report, or how to report, this further.
Namaste,
Kevin Tough
