Hi Seb,

        we are aware of this issue and we definately plan to fix it
soon, once we have got gedit 2.10 out of the door.

The first thing we will do is to make sure gedit will check the time the
file has been last modified, in order to see if the file has been
modified externally and ask for confirmation before overwriting it.

Actively monitoring the file to notify the user as soon the file gets
modified by an external program is slightly more complicated, so it may
take a little more.

PS: in general it's better to report bugs and suggestions in
bugzilla.gnome.org so that they do not get lost, however this partcular
issue is already filed there.
