Hello,

Using GNOME on Ubuntu 5.0.4, I'm well pleased with GEdit, which
handles Arabic with all its BiDi and shaping complexities like a shot.
But the screenshot you have on GEdit.org of the UTF-8 support must be
out of date, since the Arabic characters there aren't shaped. I
suggest taking a more recent screenshot, from a configuration like
mine, to avoid embarassment.
