Go in the Preferences and uncheck the option "Always watch for new
mail".

BTW, I suggest enabling the backports and upgrade to 0.11.2 (lot of

When I close the Geary app 8.2-1 in Debian 8.4, Geary continues to

Is there a way to disable this? I would like to set Geary so that it
only connects to the server (and reports new emails) when the app is
 open.
