Hey everyone,
This is a heads-up that our app id has now changed to
'org.gnome.Geary' on the master-branch. This means you might end up
with a duplicate desktop file after upgrading, which can lead to
Geary having 2 identical icons in GNOME Shell. This change has been
patched in both the 3.22 branch and the master branch of GNOME
Shell. If you are stuck on an older version of GNOME Shell, you can
delete the non-prefixed desktop file to get rid of the duplicate
icon.
Thanks for letting us know.
Here's what I did:
$ ls /usr/local/share/applications/*eary.desktop
/usr/local/share/applications/geary.desktop
/usr/local/share/applications/org.gnome.Geary.desktop
$ sudo rm /usr/local/share/applications/geary.desktop
Niels, I cannot start Geary anymore from gnome shell, only from a
terminal.
I think that it worked initially, after this update.
"Always check for new email" is disabled in the preferences. How can I
debug this error?
$ journalctl -b 0 /usr/local/bin/geary

Oh, wait, I just found this in Gnome Logs:
11:58:34:0879 As failed to rescan: Failed to parse
/usr/local/share/applications/geary-autostart.desktop file: cannot
