Alan:
Hi my name is Alan Hutchinson, and I am having a lot of dificulty with
GDM and more importantly, getting "root rights" is there a way to
surcomvent the administative buerocratic qwagmire,it is so frustrating
I would prefer it if I did not have enney passwords,I am the only one
that operates this p/c,I cant get root rights,if you could pleas give me
some feed back on this administrative Hed ake, thank you in advance.
GDM does support AutomaticLogin and TimedLogin features which cause GDM
to bypass the login screen. You can refer to the "Configuration"
section of the GDM version you are using:
http://library.gnome.org/admin/gdm/
The configuration has changed between version 2.20 and 2.22, so make
sure to check the documentation for the verison you are using. You
can run "gdmflexiserver --version" or "gdmflexiserver --command=VERSION"
to find out the version you are using.
If using GDM 2.20 or earlier, you may need to ensure that the
security/PasswordRequired key is set to FALSE.
It is also possible to configure PAM to avoid the need to enter PAM,
though editing PAM configuration is not for the faint of heart. This
has been discussed in the past on the gdm-list, and if you search the
archives you can find more help. Here is an example:
