Hello,
I've done some performance tests with gdm to see what makes it faster or
slower.
I'am using a LFS with gcc 4.0.2, glibc 2.3.6, glib 2.8.4, gtk 2.8.6 and
gdm 2.14.5 with /etc/passwd auth. on a athlonXP-2600 with 512Mb. ram.
Compile oprions are: ./configure --prefix=`pkg-config --variable=prefix
ORBit-2.0` --libexecdir=`pkg-config --variable=prefix ORBit-2.0`/lib/gdm
--sysconfdir=/etc/gnome --localstatedir=/var/lib --enable-shared=yes
--enable-static=no --enable-ipv6=no --enable-secureremote=no
--with-xinerama=no --with-xdmcp=no --with-dmx=no --with-gnu-ld --with-x
--with-prefetch=no --with-xevie=no
Using graphical login browser or not, face browser or not doesn't affect
speed, the only thing that does make a difference is the used gtkrc
file, the gtk default seems to be the fastest.
Startup time is on cold boot less then 2 seconds and warm less then 1
second.
These values are eye observations.
If I can help out improving or testing let me know, but gdm seems to
have great performance!
