gconf stops samba and cups

Sorry I am kind of new at linux but the forums at linux have not helped me in the last 2 weeks looking for help.
[andrew cmehil ~]$ ps jaxwww | grep gconf

I am running Archlinux i686 version
/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory is empty
~home/gconf/apps and /schema %gconf.xml are empty 0kb
I think that when I started configuring samba either I did not put in the right information (or i did not put anything where I should have) because before I started cups was working. I cannot find an example of what gconf.xml.mandatory and gconf/2/paths should look like. Thanks for helping and teaching.
