System:
* PowerMac G4 [silver]
* Yellow Dog Linux-4.0.1
* kernel-2.10.1 [built from source]
========================================================================
Updated the linux kernel to version 2.11.10 and found that "Monkey
Bubbles" has gone mute. XMMS, XINE, and other sound players work just
fine.
What gives???
Discussion
---------
YDL-4.x is configured to use ALSA sound. There were "issues" with the
2.6.8 version of the kernel that caused ASLA-based sound playback
problems on a PPC. Updating the kernel to version 2.10.1 solved those
problems.
I built a new version of the kernel, version 2.11.10, using the latest
stable source found on
http://www.kernel.org
The new kernel was configured using the .config file from the currently
running 2.10.1 kernel as the starting point for "make menuconfig". The
build and install were uneventful.
The system "appears" to run OK under the new kernel. The GNOME desktop
seems "happy". Audio programs like XMMS and XINE work as before.
But..., "Monkey Bubbles" is now silent. Why is that?
