Interesting analysis, thanks for the insight. I am working on RH 
Worstation 3 and have a working GARNOME so if you need help in the 
future, I may be able to assist here.

Yes, libexif is now mandatory for Nautilus. Problem is that it cannot be 
installed anywhere outside of GARNOME_PREFIX : it seems the libconf 
cannot pick it up from anywhere else ... I have to reinstall libexif 
each time I build a new GARNOME, not very useful.
