True. However, no one so far cared to come up with a solution as simple
as this. Including those guys running Solaris, who should care...

If you posted a working solution "ages and ages ago" feel free to
re-post it or at least a link to the archived post.

Now you're confusing Linux with UNIX derivatives and flavors, eh? ;-)

Granted, it is a quick hack. The comment mentions this fact. Well, it
should work. Another bug outstanding for 18 months, which no one cared
to fix yet.

Anyway, I don't feel like being flamed for caring about bugs and coming
up with working solutions. If you do know how to improve the patch, feel
free to do so. We accept proper patches sent to the list. If you don't,
I'll maybe have another look at this tomorrow.

I don't care, really. If you contributed to Free Software before, that's
fine. If you contributed a lot, even better. I do respect anyone who
does.

Anyway, I did *not* accuse you of not contributing to Free Software. If
you read that paragraph again you'll note that I referred to your recent
post(s) only.

"We" (as in GARNOME) do not focus on GNU/Linux only. It's a fact that
the GAR build system historically highly depends on GNU tools. However,
the GARNOME community and Paul in particular has put quite a lot of
effort recently into supporting other systems, including Solaris and
AIX. We want to spread GNOME, not GNU/Linux. I suggest you actually
discuss with us, before accusing us of living in a GNU-only world.

Regarding GNU tools and their usage: You *do* know what GNOME stands
for, don't you? ;-)

Don't get me wrong dude. I want to fix issues, making it work for as
much systems as possible. That's why I had a look at a lot of bugs
today, and fixed a bunch. I just happened to overlook in the first place
that this particular issue can be fixes easily.

It's not appropriate to resort to ranting and flaming though, rather
than giving proper feedback -- may it be in bugzilla or here.
