How To Enable Hald?

I've brought Garnome up on a Slackware 10 machine, with the exception
of Epiphany and Gnomemeeting.

How should I enable the hald daemon? 

I maybe mistaken, but I seem to recall seeing etc/rc.d in a previous
Garnome build.  There's no rc.d directory in this one. Should there
be?
