You likely are correct about 1.4.x -- I dunno, to tell the truth.

Anyway, GARNOME 2.6.2 'Timmy' branch provides Evolution 1.5.x only. Thus
OpenSSL won't do.

Right. And as you mentioned, configure will be the only chance of
actually reading that summary, as building will not exit on missing SSL
libs rather than building without them...
