Re: Install Issues with 0.27.1

re smbclient:
depending on your distribution it looks like you did a lot of hard
work--maybe needlessly!
at least in debian, the package needed is libsmbclient-dev; I'm sure other
dists have a similar package. You install that one package and garnome
grinds onward! I believe that the actual smbclient package is not
necessary for installation of garnome.
I can explain, in case somebody might find it helpful, how i track down
missing packages/files, though I realize most of you are more experienced
than I so this may seem like a baby comment. This works for debian
specifically,
but I assume there's a way to get this info in other distros.
When the garnome install grinds to a halt and screams about some file it
can't find, I go to www.debian.org, enter on search and then on package
and then on "contents". In the space for the keyword, I enter the name of
the file I want. I choose the debian distribution I am using (stable,
testing, or unstable) and execute my search. a screen comes up listing my
file and maybe some similar ones with corresponding package names. I
install the package that appears to correspond to the missing file.
Between trying to make sure I have the listed prerequisites on my machine
before starting and tracking down files in the way I've just described, I
generally can solve over 90% of my problems, leaving only apparent garnome
glitches with which to wrestle.
This is actually a technique that has
served me well in compilations in general. I am sorry that I can only give
the "how-to"
specifics for debian, but it has saved me hours of frustration and has
also helped me to avoid tracking down the sources and installing them when
I didn't want to do so. believe
me, I can still find plenty of hours of frustration in other aspects of
this process!!!
