I too am unable to get new fonts working under gnome2.....I'm able to select the fonts through apps like galeon or other gnome 1.4 apps.....but running the new libgnomeprint-font-install (or wutever) doesn't seem to be adding any fonts to the gnome2 font list. Obviously I'm doing something wrong , because I've seen enuff sshots with Verdana , trebuchet , etc. fonts :)

Did you try reinstalling, something like:

cd /where/your/fonts/
ttmkfdir -o fonts.scale
mkfontdir

Configure your XF86config-4 to listen your font path

/etc/init.d/xfs restart
