Are you on PPC? I added a patch to fix this a couple of releases ago.

Make sure you don't have a gconfd-1 process running for your user. If you
kill that, gconfd-2 will run properly.

Yeah, this is intended. gnome-vfs now includes /usr/share stuff by default.
These items are meant to appear in your menu (the icons issue will be fixed
soon).

No, that was not fixed in time for the 2.0.0 release. Ian will probably have
it ready for 2.0.x if we allow the changes in those releases.
