Put this in your ~/.xinitrc file:
PATH=$HOME/garnome/bin:$PATH
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$HOME/garnome/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH GDK_USE_XFT=1
export PATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH GDK_USE_XFT
exec $HOME/garnome/bin/gnome-session
And type startx. However if you are starting gnome2 from other users
than root you will want to change those $HOME's to the actual path to
garnome.
