Hi,
I have fetched the source (latest

build it.
Running:
$ ./autogen.sh --prefix=`pwd`/install
in the gnome-sudoku folder gives me this:

checking pkg-config is at least version 0.16... yes
./configure: line 16245: APPSTREAM_XML: command not found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.
Alternatively, you may set the environment variables
GNOME_SUDOKU_CFLAGS
and GNOME_SUDOKU_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

Checking for gtk I get this:
$ dpkg --list gtk*

un gtk3-binver-3.0.0 <none>

I can't say I know what pulled in the gtk2 component and I am not a
stranger adding more packages as long it does not break current.
You don't have any development packages installed for GTK+ 3.x.
The gnome-sudoku version bundled in the distribution is of
version 3.18.2 and is running under unity.
I just want to see if I can make some modifications (and maybe
learning some vala at the same time)
How should I proceed to be able to build the application(before
modifying it)?
I think that this might work:
apt-get build-dep gnome-sudoku
if gnome-sudoku exists in the Debian repositories.
Cheers
