Hey Nalin, This sounds like a very good starting point for a GSoC project. (I don't think this project should take the entirety of the summer: probably just a week or two.) There's already a bug for this functionality [1], but I don't think any work has been done on it. Unfortunately I can't volunteer to be a mentor for this project since I already have several potential students, but I'm happy to help if you're going to be working on this.
