It's not so much, esp. since a whitelist could be set up.
And you could (and should) configure your Email setup to filter what you
want or not want to see.
I don't find it the best policy to optimize for the convenience of non-members who want to send insulting rants to foundation-list. I'd rather optimize for the convenience of members who don't wish to read insulting rants. As a member I wouldn't expect to have to set up an email filter — or do anything, really — for this.
