Subject Line Changing

While the previous threads have certainly generated various opinions,
I'd like to point out that technically, simply changing a subject line
isn't always the right thing to do.

If you're using something like GMail, the client obviously threads based
on subject line. But if you're using something like Evolution, the
threads are formed through some particular message header ID. Thus,
changing a subject would still keep the mail in the same thread rather
than spawn a new thread.

Actually, it would be more of a sub-thread which might be fine if the
subject matter is closely related to the original topic. But when a
brand new topic is being discussed (even if it originated from another
thread) it is wisest to create a brand new email from scratch, and
copy/paste relevant bits from the other thread. (Granted this is a bit
more work, but that's the technical reality here.)

Otherwise, if you choose to ignore a particular thread, and someone
changes the topic via subject line, that new thread gets ignored
involuntarily.
