The time to participate in standards processes is when you are doing something
new, that requires cooperation, or when you've done something new, and it
needs to be formalized and tightened up into a standard.
We're already in the standards business, even if we don't realize it:
those currently are the GTK/Gnome API's. It is just the rest of the
world doesn't care (yet). If Gnome really succeeds, I guarantee people
will care....
