Dates Of Imported Images

When I import photos from a folder the date on the image is incorrect;
it appears to be the timestamp on the file from the filesystem rather
than the date included in the XIF data of the image.   Properties via
Nautilus shows the correct date & time.

Am I missing a check box somewhere?   Previously I am certain this
worked correctly, but it has been awhile since it worked.   Using the
XIF data from the image would be immensely preferred.
